Our Mission Statement

Empowering the 2SLGBTQIA+ community by organizing inclusive events, providing resource information, and community building activities in Northern BC.

2. Events

At the Northern BC Queer Connection Society, we believe in the power of community events to foster connections and create lasting bonds. Our calendar is filled with a range of inclusive gatherings, from casual meetups to lively celebrations including the yearly Pride Picnic. These events are vital opportunities for members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community to come together, share experiences, and feel supported. Whether it's a social gathering, an educational workshop, or a cultural celebration, there's always something happening!

2. Resources

Access to resources is essential for building strong and resilient communities. That's why Northern BC Queer Connection Society is committed to providing comprehensive resource information to help individuals connect with community service providers. Whether you're seeking support or information, we're here to help. You can reach out to us through social media, our contact page, or email, and we'll be happy to share updated information on community resources. Additionally, our website serves as a central hub for accessing valuable resources and information, keeping the community informed and empowered.

3. Community Capacity

At Northern BC Queer Connection Society, we understand that community capacity building begins with consultation, assessment, and addressing gaps. Through collaboration with our community and service providers, we facilitate workshops, educational resources, and feedback mechanisms. As part of our commitment to community capacity building, we also support Queer Artists, recognizing the role they play in our community wellness and queer representation. Our objectives include disciplines such as drag, performance art, and music.

4. where we started

Northern BC Queer Connection Society began as a grassroots organization known as PG Queer Cafe. At the time, Queer Cafes were emerging worldwide in response to the closure of gay bars and the growing need for 2SLGBTQIA+ gathering spaces.

In 2018, when PG Queer Cafe was established, there were limited spaces for the broader 2SLGBTQIA+ community to gather in Prince George. Although the city boasted School Pride Clubs, community service organizations, and pride celebrations, there were few year-round community events for queer individuals, resulting in minimal visibility throughout the year.

The initial meetings were small, with just a handful of people gathering once a month. However, as word spread, our community grew steadily, prompting the planning of various activities and events. While the group was dubbed PG Queer Cafe, we didn't own a coffee shop; instead, we in various cafes until our numbers outgrew the space. Soon, we expanded our horizons, initiating annual Pride Picnics and other significant events such as the Spring Fling and Sleigh Rides.

When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, highlighting the need for solidarity within the queer community, we swiftly adapted by transitioning to virtual supports. From online meet-ups to car parades, treasure hunts, and virtual concerts, we found innovative ways to maintain connections and support one another.

As pandemic restrictions gradually lifted, our organization experienced exponential growth, fostering collaborations with non-profits, charities, and community organizations. In November 2023, PG Queer Cafe transitioned into a Non-Profit entity, officially adopting the name "Northern BC Queer Connection Society."

From this pivotal moment onward, we embark on a new journey, united in our mission to build and strengthen our community together.
